SaReGaMa

It is Monday again and time for our new band of the week! This time, I have a musician for you who is very fascinated by Indian music and spiritual practices. Even his artist's name refers to Indian music: He calls himself “SaReGaMa” which are the first four Indian note names of the octave.

He, whose name is Serge Eisen, started to become passionate about music at the age of 17. Instead of spending a lot of money for expensive instruments, he started to build his own ones. Serge learned to play keyboard, guitar, different kinds of ethnic flutes and the didgeridoo, an instrument originated in Australia. Furthermore, he learned to play different percussion instruments and other exotic sounds like the kalimba, which comes from Africa or the jews harp whose origins are in Asia!
Over time, Serge turned his hobby into his job. As he doesn't focus on one specific style, he can offer his music for nearly every kind of mood, occasion or background. You can find nearly everything, from Electronic music to Christmas music for children.
Maybe his variety, perfection and passion for music were leading him to his success: In 2009, his virtual band Triplexity, which is moreover one of the first virtual bands ever, was the gold winner of the Jamendo awards. One other big success was to write the music for the movie “Ocean of an old man” which is a very touching story about a teacher living on one of the Andaman or Nicobar Islands which belong mainly to India. The teacher lost most of his students by a devastating tsunami what refers to the tsunami in 2004 destroying many regions in Indonesia, Sri-Lanka, India and Thailand.
The location of this movie also fits to Serges philosophy about music. He sees music as a product of meditation like it is practiced in Ancient India and even today. After meditating, producing music and art in general would be not subjective anymore but objective and would be only then real art which can be shown to the public. “SaReGaMa” expresses his opinion about music with metaphoric words: “My goal as an artist is creating uplifting and enlightening music with positive energetic charge and soothing vibration.“
“Your art is simply a kind of vomiting. It will help you, just the way vomiting helps. It takes the nausea away, it makes you cleaner, makes you feel healthier.”
Let's listen to one of his songs from his pop-rock category with orchestral elements. Just open yourself to his sounds and create your own story in your mind while you hear it. Enjoy “Achievements and Challenges” by SaReGaMa!
