The needle eye

The Greeks invented many wonderful tools and machines that evolved over time and became what we know now, like the alarm clock created by the ancient Greek philosopher Plato (water alarm clock).

But there is a tool that remains the same after thousands of years : the needle eye. It's one of the oldest tools we still use every day, just like people did in the past.

The oldest needle eye has been discovered in 2016 in a Greek cave and is dated from the beginning of the Upper Paleolithic, about 45.000 years before Christ!

The prehistoric needles are made of bone. The Greeks used different flint tools to make their needles, by cutting and scraping the bones. The needles were used to assemble and sew animal skins, for example to create clothes or blankets.

This invention was quickly disseminated throughout Europe. We found many of them during the Prehistoric period from 18.000 before Christ and until now.
From the Bronze Age to the 19th century, they were made of brass, then steel.

Isn't it amazing that a tool remain the same for more than 45.000 years ?! But... did the Greeks really invent it ? Check out the solution below.

Solution:
Everything is true but the first needle eye doesn't come from Greece : it comes from a Russian cave (called Denisova). Nevertheless, we don't know everything about the past and we will never know the whole truth then maybe the first one was conceived in Greece!
