Rancor

Welcome back to chiosRadio.gr in our today’s episode of creatures from HELLas!

Let me start with this quotation:
"The rancor is deadly and one of the most hideous beasts I have ever encountered [ …] with no thought other than to kill and eat."

The Rancor – described as an enormous five to ten meter huge brown colored creature with more than a ton of mass, the body unproportional big for a head that is mainly consisting of a mouth with long razor sharp teeth without any body hair– has one destiny. Eating flesh. The carnivore monster prefers to eat smaller personally hunted down pray in whole. Once it was told to have a consciousness, an awareness, intelligence, but the species lost it later in tragic happenings. Once docile, they were brought to monstrous aggression by numerous triggers such as starvation, torture, or territorial disputes with other creatures. They are a nocturnal species living in matriarchal clans.

Only the bravest men could fight against them but their leather as a trophy was reputable, worn maybe even a sign for arrogance. Only one man is known who kept one of those beast in a pit beneath his palace courts, dropping displeasing guests into to not only entertain the masses but to feed the beast.

Just the witches of Mount Dathomir are able to dominate the Rancors, break their will to use them as riding animals, when they enter a war. Also the bones of dead rancors are a preferred material for creating weapons.

Is this a creature out of Greek mythology or am I fooling you and it is actually out of a horror movie? If you want to be surprised check on chiosRadio.gr under my article.

Thank you for listening and stay tuned.

Solution:
The rancor is actually out of the StarWars universe, I doubt the genre horror for this movie is accurate, but anyways, the rancor appears in Return of the Jedi for the first time as a pet animal of Jabba the hut that tries to kill Luke Skywalker and is in the end, of course, dominated by him.
