Winter sport

If you think about sport in Greece, skiing or ice skating are probably not the first things coming in your mind. So today I would like to present you which sport events in Greece or with Greek participation expect you this winter.

Maybe the most important competitions are the Olympics in Pyeongchang from 9th till the 25th of February 2018. Already on the 24th of October 2017 the Olympic fire was inflamed in the holy grove of antique Olympia. Now it is carried around different cities in South Korea. Since 1948 Greece is always represented in the Olympic winter games with small teams. Of course this season they will have some great athletes too. The represented disciplines are alpine skiing, biathlon, cross-country skiing, ski jumping and skeleton. Until today the Greek athletes are waiting for a med. During the games in 1952 the alpine skier Antoin Miliordos fell 18 times during his race. Finally, he passed the finish line backwards. His racing time was the slowest in the Olympic Slalom discipline.

If you don't only want to watch winter  but being active too, you can visit one of the winter sport cities in Greece. The best time to go skiing or snowboarding is in February and March. Also there are some indoor activities like ice hockey or figure-skating.
