Interview with Pheidippides

Pheidippides – an nearly unknown name, but a person best known through another association: the marathon race. He was the legendary soldier who ran 40 kilometers from Marathon to Athens after the battle of Marathon.

He brought news of the Greek victory over an invading Persian army. And after delivering the message, he collapsed and died of exhaustion, says the story.

The modern event known as the marathon race has been founded to remember the famous run of the courier. The official distance is 42.195 km, resembling roughly the original distance from Marathon to Athens.

We met Pheidippides after one of his morning runs in the underworld.
