Sirens

Today we are back with another episode of Creature from Hellas. At the end, you once again have the chance to guess, whether or not the creature I’m going to present you today has its origin in Greek mythology.

The creature which is presented today is quite unique as it uses its beautiful voice and enchanting music to lure nearby sailors to their respective islands, where the ships strand due to the rocky coasts.

The creature we are talking about is called Siren and the song they are singing is said to be both unbelievably beautiful and sad at the same time. Those, who are attracted by its music, are lured to their deaths. Their song is said to occur in the middle of the day, when it is calm and quiet.

The Sirens appearance is believed to be a combination of a woman and a bird, with people’s opinion differing regarding their exact form. Versions exist in which Sirens are birds with large women’s heads, clad in father and scaly feet. Other times they are said to be female figures with the legs of a bird, playing a variety of musical instruments, mostly the harp. Regardless of their looks, all of them lure those, who are attracted by their music to their death.

How the sailors, who fell victim to the Sirens music die, is open to interpretation.

Solution:
Yes, the creature has indeed its roots in Greek mythology.
