Banshee

In this article I will present you the Banshee. I will first describe the look, then typical attributes of this creature and after that, you can decide if you think it is a creature from the Greek mythology or if it is just a creature invented by Hollywood or from another culture.

So let’s start. The Banshee is a ghostly woman who can foretell deaths with their high pitched screams. But those screams are unlike anything you ever heard before. The wail is so strong that it can be heard from miles away and it is so scary that you will get goosebumps immediately. Some stories even say that the glass of windows shattered. It is said that if you can hear those cries either you or a person close to you, like a family member or a friend, will die soon.

Even though they do not convey good messages, Banshees are no evil or violent creatures. Their dark and mysterious appearance probably arose from their own tragic story. Many people believe Banshees are spirits of women who were murdered or died during childbirth. Their own tragic story makes them unbelievably sensitive for other people’s feelings and destinies and that is why they can predict one’s death.

Not a lot of people ever saw a Banshee and one can therefore not be entirely sure how this creature looks. Either way, the majority of people who have seen a Banshee described them as a thin, old woman with wrinkled skin and long, light, wild, uncombed hair. They usually wear a traditional burial robe. But there are also stories that tell that the Banshee can appear as a stunningly beautiful woman of any age or even as an animal. Another characteristic of a Banshee are their eyes, which are always inflamed from weeping.
