Athos

In this article i want to tell you more about Athos, in the end you will have to decide again whether this creature origins in Greek mythology or not.

Then let's not waste any more time and get started. First I want to talk about the obvious association that you might have when you here Athos, and that is the mountain.
Mount Athos is located in northern Greece and is famous for it's status as holy mountain, but also for it's rich history and all the monasteries the mountain is home to. The mountains first reference dates back to the times of Homer.
At it's peak there were a total of 7000 monks living on the mountain. However, the mountain also has a rather tragic history, but now let's move on to the creature i want to talk about.

Athos is said to have been a giant, and the reason i told you about the mountain before, is because he is said to be an integral figure in the mountains creation. The story goes as follows: Athos throws a mountain at poseidon and misses.
Poseidon then threw it back at him thus creating mount Athos.
Athos is usually depicted as a type of barbarian with panther skin clothing and serpent legs using flaming torches and rocks as weapons.
