Vrykolakas

It`s time again for another round of our guessing game. Let me introduce you the creature called Vrykolakas.

This creature is similar to vampires but in contrast they aren`t bloodsuckers. But still, these creatures are very scary, because they are undead, so you really don`t want to meet them. The mythology says that you can become a Vrykolakas after death if you didn`t behave well, if you got banned by church, you got burried in an unsacred way or you ate meat of a sheep that`s been bitten before by a wolf or werewolf. In that case your dead body doesn`t decay, instead it swells and becomes really huge. The skin is kind of reddish. Because of that, people with red hair were suspected to be a Vrykolakas. Vrykolakas by themselves are harmful, they just stroll around like a poltergeist. But you should better keep your distance as Vrykolakas can cause whole epidemics and you better do not open the door if it knocks and calls out your name. If you do open the door after the first knock, the mythology says that you will die a few days later and also become a Vrykolakas. Also Vrykolakas become more powerful if they stay alone. That`s why people try to kill them by cutting the body into small pieces, impaling or burning the body so the community is safe again. That`s the reason why many families burned or beheaded their departed members.
