The Lamassi are some kind of gods but not very famous. A Lamassu’s body looks quite similar to a bull’s or a lion’s body. It has the head of a human and additionally a pair of wings resembling the ones of eagles. All in all, the Lamassu has a very female appearance.

Lamassi have different powerful abilities. All of them combined together make up a very mighty and fearsome creature. The body similar to the bull’s or lion’s one demonstrates the strength of the Lamassu. The wild bulls at that time were really big and their shoulders were high above the ground. Even the head of a tall grown-up man is below their shoulders. The eagle represents the power of this creature as it is the most powerful bird in the sky. The eagle’s wings are the symbol for the power of a king who looks over those he rules flying around far up in the air. And last but not least, the crowned human head shows the Lamassu’s intelligence, shaping the world around it in whatever way it wants it.

By the way, the less often seen male counterpart of the Lamassu is called Shedu.
