Talos

Nowadays robots doing tasks like lawn mowing, vacuum cleaning or even exploring other planets are not only dreams but reality. But when did the time of robots actually start?

Back in the time of ancient Greece there were no robots but so-called automatons and Hephaestus is known to be their creator. One of them was Talos, a giant automaton made of bronze. Talos was incredibly strong and being made out of metal, he was almost indestructible and could protect Crete from invaders by patrolling over the island. What made him be alive was the life-fluid in his vein running through his whole body. This was also his weak point, that allowed Medea to kill him. She fooled him so that she could open the vein and all the life-fluid ran out of Talos leaving just a dead bronze body behind. What do you think? Was Talos the automaton the ancient Greek version of a robot? Click the link below to find it out.
