Medusa

The creature I will present to you today is called Medusa. She is a woman with hair consisting of snakes that makes everyone who looks at her head turn into stone.

Unlike her sisters who were born as immortal monsters Medusa was a beautiful woman before she was turned into this creature by Athena. The reason for this punishment was Medusas affair with the sea god Poseidon.

After having turned a lot of people into stone Medusa was finally killed by Perseus who cut her head of while watching her in a mirrored shield to avoid being  petrified, too. The moment her head was cut of Medusas two children Pegasus, the winged horse and Chrysaor a giant with a golden sword came out of her neck. Medusas head was placed on Athena’s shield afterwards as a special protection. Some of her blood was meanwhile used to either raise people back from the death or to poison enemies.
