Kerasma

Kerasma is Greek for treat and is a dinning custom. Kerasma is often served in restaurants after finishing the meal as a little present of the owners.

In this context it can be fruits of the session, small cakes or other sweets. In cafés and bars cookies or chips are often served with the drinks. It shows the hospitality of the restaurant and thanks the customer for their visit.

But you can not only get a Kerasma in a restaurant or cafes. When people have their name’s day or birthday they hand out a Kerasma, usually chocolates to their family, friends and colleagues.

This tradition is that common that some people even hand out a Kerasma when not they but a beloved family member celebrates. Also on national holidays and the celebration of saints a Kerasma is very common.
