Kataraktis

A sunny welcome to chiosradio.gr! In these busy summer days, do you also feel like you really need some quiet time of peace and relaxation? Then I have the perfect destination on Chios Island for you: The charming seaside village of Kataraktis!

Kataraktis is a small fishing village at the east coast of Chios Island, about fifteen kilometres south of Chios city. Located between lots of olive groves and mastic trees and with a lovely promenade next to the sea, Kataraktis looks like it came directly out of a travel destination calendar. And exactly this is what this charming village is perfect for: to travel there and enjoy the authentic and untouched atmosphere of a Greek sea side village.

Thanks to the small beautiful port right next to the promenade, the taverns and restaurants are provided with fresh fish the whole year. And if you feel like swimming after your delicious seafood meal, you don’t even have to drive somewhere, because the beach is directly in the village and close to the promenade.

In case you bathed enough in the fresh and clear sea, why don’t you visit the two most famous churches in the area of Kataraktis: the monastery of Panagia Rouchouni and the church of Agios Ioannis of Argentis, which were both build in medieval times.

One of the numerous tempting aspects of this village is it’s tranquillity, but of course bigger villages are everything than far: Nenita and Kalimasia are only a few minutes by car away and are both important Mastic producing villages on Chios island.
Kataraktis is a place to escape the everyday routine and is therefore an ideal place for quiet and relaxing family vacations. So if you are in desperate need of some sun, sea and a soulful atmosphere, your next vacation really should be Kataraktis village on Chios Island!
