Karidopita - The Greek Nut Cake

Here is a great recipe for all the people with a sweet tooth: The Karidopita, a Greek nut cake. The measurement is for 8 people, but of course you can also share it with just another person or eat it all alone - like I would do.

Everything we need for this cake is..

  • 1 cup with sugar
  • 1 cup with milk
  • 0,5 cup with butter
  • 2 cups of walnuts, of course grated
  • 0,5 cup with flour
  • 0,5 cup with rusk or zwieback, also grated
  • 0,5 cup with milk
  • 5 eggs
  • 1 table spoon natron
  • 3 table spoons baking powder
  • 2 table spoons brandy
  • 3 cups of sugar
  • 2 cups with water
  • 1 table spoon lemon juice
  • and for the original taste, we need cinnamon and cloves.

Everything is ready and prepared, well-ordered on the table, just waiting to be used? Then let's start without losing more time with talking:

The butter needs to get stirred foamy and mixed with the sugar and the eggs. The grated nuts should be mixed together with cinnamon and the cloves and the natron gets liquidated in the brandy. Then we put the milk, the nuts, the brandy and the cloves- powder together until it has a nice creamy consistence so that we can put it into the baking dish. But please don't forget to cream it with butter and flour so that the cake will not be destroyed while trying to take it off the baking dish.

Then we can put the cake into the oven where it stays for one hour. Begin to bake it on a high heating level and then change into a lower heat. The last step before we can eat is to prepare the syrup: we put water, sugar and the lemon juice together on the oven and when it is boiled up, we let it run over the cake.

That's it! Just meanwhile reading my mouth started watering- if it was the same for you while listening then my job is done for now. Please visit our website to have a (closer) look on the recipe and there are also some pictures so that you can compare. That's all we can do for your eyes and your ears, now it is time for you to satisfy all the other senses.

Bon appetit!
