Galaktoboureko

The today's recipe is a really nice and especially versatile Greek food. In the episode on ChiosRadio.gr, we will prepare the Galaktoboureko in it's sweet variation.

 



preparation: for 8 people
duration: 40 minutes

INGREDIENTS

Cake:
3 eggs
150g of sugar
90g of semolina
2 packages of vanilla sugar
1 lemon peel
1 liter milk
a pinch of salt
6 big phyllo pastries
150g butter

Syrup:
150g of sugar
1 table spoon of cinnamon
125ml of water
lemon

PREPARATION
Cake:
Mix eggs with sugar, semolina and vanilla sugar in a bowl. Put some milk with a pinch of salt to a pot, add a lemon peel and start to boil it. When the mixture is getting thick, take it out of the fire and mix it with an egg mixture while it is cooling down. Remove an orange peel.

Grease baking plate with some butter. The rest of it put to the microwave and heat it until it is liquid.  Prepare 3 pastries to put it on a baking plate. Make sure that you have approximately 5cm are outside of the baking plate on each side. Cover it with some butter and repeat with other two. Put the hanging pieces of pastries inside the plate. Next take all of a vanilla cream and spread equally on it. Take 3 more pastries and repeat the previous steps. Cut it to the equal pieces with a knife and put to the oven for 35-40 minutes on 180 degrees.
Syrup (start preparing for 5 minutes before the pastry is done):
Take rest of the sugar, a cinnamon, the juice of a lemon and water. Put it into the oven and wait until it is boiled and we have creamy syrup. Then add to a still hot pastry.
