Mastichochoria
In this area, with a beautiful landscape of green 'schinos-trees' and old immured villages, the centuries seem to have stopped passing by. But these trees are not only for the viewers pleasure:
Melanios
Today I will present you a rather small village on our beautiful Chios Island: Melanios!
This little village is located in the north of Chios Island and sadly it is deserted nowadays. The name Melanios means black in Greek and refers to the Black Crag nearby the village.
Mesta
Mesta is a beautiful village placed on the southwest part of Chios island, 35 kilometers away from Chios city, in small treeless valley far from the sea, on the wider expanse of Mastichoria (which in greek means "villages that produce mastic").
Monastery of Aghios Minas
Aghios Minas, Chios Island
Six girls, one rainy Sunday and Saint Minas
It was one warm and a bit rainy Sunday in October. We took a nice walk down the road from Katarraktis to Aghios Minas (greek Αγίου Μηνά). It's a monastery situated on a hilltop close to village Neohori, built in the 16th century.
It is famous to the world because of the massacre in March 1822 when the islanders who were seeking refuge, were killed by Turks during the Greek Revolution.
Our little group of six girls didn't mind the rain. Fig fruits and blackberries that we've tasted on the way was the only thing that was stopping us.
Myrmigi
The small village with the name Myrmigi is located in the Southeast of Chios, 13 kilometers from its capital and part of the municipality of Ionia.
