Today I want to tell you about the Greek dance named Ikariotikos. The story of the dance starts in the 15th century on the Island of Ikaria. There it developed its typical time signature of 2/4.  The first Instruments it was played on were the Laouto, Lyre, Violin, Tsabounofilaka and percussion instruments.

Locomondo

 

Locomondo is one of the most famous and successful Greek bands. They create reggae music mixed with traditional Greek music elements and with Greek lyrics. Some of the classic Greek instruments they use are the bouzouki, the baglama, the violin, the Tsampoura, which can be described as Greek bagpipe and the Cretan Lyra.

Bouzouki

 

The bouzouki (Greek: μπουζούκι) is one of the most popular Greek instruments, mainly used for rebetika, a type of Greek improvised music.  It is a long necked plucked lute, similar to the mandolin that consists of a round wooden body, a fingerboard and either six or eight metal strings.
